The most rewarding curtains to clean, because a white sheer greys so gradually that nobody notices until it comes back. Light, open weaves take a low-moisture on-rail clean beautifully and dry within the hour, which makes them the fastest job on this list.
A heavy face fabric with a separate lining behind it, which is why washing them at home goes wrong: the two layers shrink at different rates and the curtain never hangs straight again. Cleaned on the rail, both faces, with the lining treated in its own right.

The workhorse of modern window treatments and the most forgiving. Takes steam on the rail happily. The thing to watch is residue - leave detergent in and the fabric attracts dust faster than before.
